Police again block refugees in Koksijde

The news that the Koksijde Refugee Reception Center was unblocked on May 30, the refugees met with applause. A person does not like living in prison, especially for no legitimate reason. And refugees are people too. Moreover, unlike animals in the zoo, they can even talk. They can explain why they do not like to sit behind the fence.

Freedom of movement was returned to people - thanks to everyone who achieved this.

But freedom came only for a few days. Today, June 3, the police again blocked the entrance to the Refugee Reception Center. People are in prison again.

Yes, I think it is racism and discrimination. This is not a fight against coronavirus. Local authorities use coronavirus to justify discrimination and incite hatred towards refugees.

Look, Belgian police without masks block refugees who always carefully wear masks in public places. So the police are not afraid to get infected?

About how the local mayor Marc Vanden Busche is manipulating, trying to isolate refugees, I already wrote - https://paulbarbar.blogspot.com/2020/05/mr-mayor-stop-manipulating.html.

However, the mayor continues to uphold the idea that all residents of the Refugee Reception Center who have no symptoms should be force-tested for coronavirus. At the same time, the mayor does not want to test all the residents of Koksijde without symptoms or tourists who enter the city without symptoms.

Apparently, the mayor of Koksijde is an outstanding virologist. He made a discovery - the coronavirus goes to refugees first, and only from them goes to the citizens of Belgium. According to the mayor, the virus is a reasonable form of life, which first looks at the passport, and then makes a decision about infection.

By the way, the inhabitants of the Koksijde Refugee Reception Center have been in Belgium for at least three months, have previously gone through a lockdown (the first time it ended on May 4), and if one of them accidentally sneezes, even without testing it is isolated from the rest in the quarantine zone inside the center that I showed you - https://paulbarbar.blogspot.com/2020/05/why-is-police-blocking-refugees-in.html.

I do not think that most Belgians practice such precautions. And if they don’t practice, then why not test all the inhabitants of Koksijde? This is a question for the mayor. I'm just trying to find the logic.

Simple question. But the mayor cannot give an answer to it. This is probably why he decided to abandon the previously announced decision to sue Fedasil demanding that all refugees without symptoms be tested. Now he claims that he will not go to court. Indeed, during the trial, an obvious motive may be revealed - discrimination. The mayor Marc Vanden Busche is a lawyer by education - he probably remembered one of the lectures that he had listened to at the university.

The Koksijde refugee scandal began on the pretext of testing refugee children who wanted to go to school.

This is a very sensitive point. I am also for safety at school. I am also worried that older teachers may be infected by children. But I do not understand - why does this not bother the mayor of Koksijde? He did not order to test all the children who returned to school, but only a small group - the children of refugees. Contrary to common sense, the mayor follows his theory that the virus is looking at the passport. Children born from Belgian citizens cannot bring coronavirus to schools and will not endanger elderly teachers - such is the faith of the mayor-virologist.

It was announced that in two refugee children the test gave a positive result. The two families were immediately isolated in quarantine containers. Children and their parents still do not have any symptoms, they feel completely healthy.

The children did an rapid test, as the result was known after three hours. It seemed like it was an antibody test that showed immunity, not a virus. A test to determine the presence of the virus usually takes 2-3 days. I did not find information about the testing method, although this is important and should be voiced. The veterinarian does not explain to the dog which method he uses. But doctors must explain this to people. Let me remind you that refugees are people, they can speak and understand what has been said.

Unlike the mayor Marc Vanden Busche, I am not a virologist. I just analyze open information and ask questions.

Is it true that refugee children did not go to school just because two of them have immunity? Is it true that only the presence of immunity in a child caused isolation of two families in quarantine containers? Is it true that the mayor isolated several hundred refugees based solely on the fact that antibodies are detected in two children, that is, immunity to coronavirus is detected?

Why are there no answers to these questions?

But I definitely know the answer to one question - do refugee children want to go to school? Yes they do.

There is a small group of refugees who do not want to send their children to school based on their cultural background. But most refugees want their children to go to school. I have heard that children have the right to education, “on the basis of equal opportunity,” as recorded in article 28 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Many refugees even agree to voluntarily (not forcibly) undergo testing. But how can they believe the local authorities if the existence of immunity can cause stigma and discrimination?

Provide complete information about the testing method, organize testing independent of the mayor, ensure complete confidentiality, and allow everyone (including the Belgians) to undergo testing voluntarily. The mayor Marc Vanden Busche has repeatedly stated that the city is ready to pay for testing, which means that there will be no difficulties.

And if you don’t want or cannot do this, stop intimidating and restricting the rights of a small vulnerable group of people whose fault is only in asking for protection and not having Belgian citizenship.

Update - one of two children has been retested. The test showed a negative result - https://www.koksijde.be/nieuws/lokaal-bestuur-koksijde-uit-haar-bezorgdheid-over-het-asielcentrum-een-brief-aan-vlaamse. This confirms that blocking refugees is just discrimination. Just think - five days ago, a child without symptoms was suddenly declared sick, and now they say that he is healthy. How is this possible?
