Why is the police blocking refugees in Koksijde?
The blocking by the police of the Koksijde Refugee Reception Center raises questions.
Refugees were forbidden to go out; in fact, they are now in prison.
The official reason for blocking - testing showed two cases of coronavirus.
It sounds scary, but let's look at how it happened and why these two cases caused isolation of hundreds of people.
Tests were carried out on May 27 for children who were supposed to go to school. According to their parents, the results were known after three hours. Perhaps these were rapid tests, which often show errors.
In the evening of the same day, these two families were isolated in the territory of the Refugee Reception Center in special boxes. During the relocation to these boxes, they told their neighbors that they did not feel any symptoms - they did not cough, did not sneeze, they did not have a fever. They feel completely healthy.
That is, the test results raise questions.
Mayor Koksijde does not want refugee children to go to school. In this regard, I want to ask - did all children without symptoms or only refugee children test for coronavirus in Koksijde before school?
We will proceed from the fact that the test showed the correct result, although rapid tests often give an erroneous result (therefore, it is reasonable to conduct repeated independent testing).
Even if refugees without symptoms are really sick, they were immediately isolated in special boxes. They were isolated from the rest of the refugees, most of whom they did not contact.
The quarantine conditions on the territory of the Refugee Reception Center provide complete isolation, which you can see in the photographs.
1. Each box has 4 beds. One room - one family.
4. Nearby is the toilet, which is used only by those who are in quarantine.
6. In other boxes showers.
8. The quarantine boxes are isolated from the rest of the Refugee Reception Center.
12. Entrance to the quarantine zone through the tent.
13. The first quarantine boxes were brought on March 10th.
14. In addition, three days ago, improved quarantine boxes were installed, with a covered corridor between the boxes. Better isolation of patients.
The employees of the center bring food to the quarantine boxes in airtight containers, observing safety measures.
In addition, food is brought to all other refugees, in each room - the common dining room is closed. This allows for social distance.
Employees of the Refugee Reception Center show professionalism and increased attention to issues of social distance. Thanks to their work, safety rules are respected.
Refugees themselves sew masks, a sewing workshop is equipped for this, that is, they are fully provided with masks. Every day they sew more than 200 face masks.
Refugees wash public places (corridors, stairs, shower, toilet) three times a day(!) with disinfectants.
I am sure that many Belgians do not do all this - but the police allow them to leave their homes. Even if neighbors live near them who become infected with the coronavirus without symptoms. Social distance, masks and disinfectants are enough. There is no need to turn people's lives into imprisonment.
How are refugees different from ordinary Belgians? The answer is very simple: if there is no discrimination, then they are no different.
It is completely incomprehensible why hundreds of refugees actually live in prison, although inside the Refugee Reception Center there is already a full quarantine for those infected with coronavirus. Moreover, only two people (two children) are considered infected - and they have no symptoms.
I repeat: on the territory of the Center there are a lot of well equipped quarantine boxes - but only two families live there. In each of these families, only one child is considered infected with coronavirus, although there are no symptoms. All other quarantine boxes are empty.
Coronavirus was not born at the Refugee Reception Center. And this place is not a leprosarium.
In addition, refugees are less dangerous as carriers of the virus. They are almost not socialized. They don’t go to restaurants and clubs, they won’t even go to barbershop, because it’s expensive - they cut their hair themselves. Most of them have no friends among the Belgians whom they could visit every day. A refugee goes to the supermarket and to the sea - these are the most popular refugee routes in Koksijde. As well as trips to a lawyer and for an interview in the migration service..
It seems that coronavirus is being used as an excuse to block and intimidate refugees by local authorities in Koksijde. Because the mayor, perhaps, hates refugees. Hate speech is very simple, especially if there is no information about the real situation.
Fear of coronavirus is used to discriminate against the most vulnerable group, which cannot protect themselves.
If coronavirus has become an instrument of unmotivated oppression of a small group of people, then the authorities are ready to do the same with the rest of the Belgians.
This rule has no exceptions.
